NOMAD – Abebe Hewiso 250g | Ethiopia
About This Coffee
Abebe Hewiso grows coffee in Bona Zuria, in Ethiopia’s Sidamo region, at elevations reaching over 2,100 metres above sea level. On his 3.2-hectare farm, he cultivates JARC 74110 under a traditional agroforestry system that supports biodiversity and encourages long-term soil health. His work forms part of the Lalisaa Project, an initiative led by Sucafina Ethiopia that supports small producers through agronomic training, improved access to financing and stronger direct relationships with international roasters.
Lalisaa — meaning “flourishing” in Amharic — brings together nearly 100 producers across regions including Kochere, Gedeb, Yirgacheffe, Shakiso, Bule Hora and Sidamo, all focused on quality improvement and sustainable production. Through the project, Abebe has continued refining his harvesting and processing methods, producing coffees known for their sweetness, clarity and balance in the cup.
This lot is processed using a traditional natural method. Fully ripe cherries are selectively hand-harvested before being dried slowly on raised African beds for between 23 and 28 days. During drying, the cherries are regularly turned to ensure even dehydration and carefully covered during intense sunlight and overnight periods to protect stability and preserve cup quality. The extended drying process enhances the coffee’s natural sweetness while developing floral complexity and structure.
The cup is sweet, elegant and beautifully balanced, opening with notes of pear, camomile and loquat. Honey-like sweetness and delicate florals are supported by panela and soft cocoa powder, while a silky body and medium acidity bring freshness and clarity throughout. A refined and expressive Sidamo natural with a balanced, harmonious finish.
