Burundi Coffee
Burundi produces some of East Africa’s most vibrant and clean coffees, with a growing reputation for quality in the specialty coffee world. Grown at high altitudes in regions such as Kayanza and Ngozi, coffee is cultivated by smallholder farmers managing small plots, often with just a few hundred trees.
Most coffees are processed at centralised washing stations, where careful cherry selection, controlled fermentation and slow drying on raised beds contribute to the clarity and structure Burundi is known for.
The cup profile is typically bright and juicy, with notes of citrus, stone fruit and florals, supported by balanced sweetness and a clean, refreshing finish. These characteristics make Burundi coffees particularly well suited to filter brewing.
