DAK – Blackberry Dust 200g | Ethiopia
About This Coffee
Blackberry Dust is a natural from Buku Abel, a washing station in the Guji zone of southern Ethiopia, and comes from the late part of the 2026 harvest.
Buku Abel does not farm coffee itself. Around 400 smallholders bring their cherry to the station, most of them working plots of half a hectare to two hectares, often with coffee grown alongside food crops and other trees. Their farms sit between 1,900 and 2,100 metres, and the station's job is to gather those many small harvests together and process them into distinct, high-quality lots.
The variety is Ethiopian heirloom, the working term for the many indigenous coffee types that have been grown across the country for generations. It covers a diverse range of local trees rather than one named cultivar.
The cherries are handpicked by the farmers and sorted at Buku Abel on the day they are delivered. They are then spread whole across raised drying beds and turned regularly so they dry evenly, staying there until they reach the right moisture content. No extra fermentation step is added: this is a traditional natural, and the sweetness and fruit come from the slow drying of the whole cherry.
In the cup: blackberry, wild strawberry and blueberry yoghurt. Fruity and sweet, with a soft, creamy finish.
