DAK – Plum Butter 250g | Uganda
About This Coffee
Plum Butter is a natural from Bulambuli, in Eastern Uganda around Mount Elgon. It comes through Ibero, a partner DAK have worked with for years, who buy from 200 to 400 smallholder farmers in the area and opened the Bulambuli Washing Station in 2022.
Most of those farms are smaller than one hectare and are organised around local communities, growing coffee at high elevation. The varieties in this lot are SL-14 and SL-28, two of the selections commonly grown around Bulambuli alongside SL-34 and widely associated with neighbouring Kenya.
The cherries are carefully selected before going to the drying yard, where they ferment and dry whole on tables. A specialised team manages the drying, adjusting the layers of coffee throughout depending on the preparation and the fermentation. There are no extra controlled fermentation stages and nothing added: it is a traditional natural, with the work going into cherry selection and careful handling while it dries.
In the cup: dark plum, purple grape and cacao. Deep, smooth and fruit-forward, rich without becoming heavy.
Freshly roasted by DAK Coffee Roasters in Amsterdam and imported to the UK by ROAST EDIT Co.
