NOMAD – Competicion Acacia Hills Gesha 250g | Tanzania
Acacia Hills is a farm in the Karatu district of northern Tanzania, on the slopes of Mount Oldeani. The estate dates to the 1960s; Leon Christianakis, a third-generation producer from a Greek-Tanzanian family, bought it in 2007 with Mark Stell of Portland Coffee Roasters and replanted it for specialty coffee. This lot is Gesha AA, grown and processed on the farm at between 1750 and 1950 metres above sea level — a Tanzanian Gesha, which is not a combination that turns up often on a UK shelf.
The processing is washed and closely managed at every stage. After picking, the coffee goes through an open fermentation of twelve to thirteen hours. It is then hand-sorted, and dried on raised African beds over a window of thirteen to sixteen days before being prepared for export.
Oolong tea, yellow kiwi and citrus peel lead the cup, with floral and herbal notes underneath. Around those sit tropical fruit impressions — guarana, papaya and citrus zest. The body is juicy, the acidity bright, and the finish sweet and citrusy.
This sits in NOMAD's competition range — their own top tier, bag code C.TA.GESHA.
Freshly roasted by NOMAD Coffee in Barcelona and imported to the UK by ROAST EDIT Co.
