People Possession – Finca La Palma [Washed Geisha] {Filter} 200g | Peru

Peruvian Geisha still gets far less attention than its Panamanian or Colombian counterparts, but farms like Segundo Pintado Laban's Finca La Palma, in Santa Fe, Cajamarca, are part of a growing case for why that's overdue for a rethink. Grown at 1,890 metres and processed simply as a washed coffee, this lot leans on variety and terroir rather than an elaborate fermentation technique to do the work — a choice that suits Geisha, a variety that tends to reward restraint in processing rather than intervention.

Cajamarca sits in Peru's northern highlands, a region with genuinely high altitude potential that's historically been overshadowed by the country's more established southern growing areas. A straightforward washed process here strips the cherry back to let the variety and the altitude speak for themselves, rather than layering additional character on top through natural or co-fermentation methods.

The cup profile is classically Geisha in its structure — light-bodied, tea-like, and aromatically complex — but the specific notes here lean distinctly floral and delicate: peach and cranberry give it a light fruit edge, vanilla adds a soft sweetness, and white flowers, camomile, and fig leaf layer in underneath for a genuinely herbal, tisane-like quality that sets it apart from punchier, more fruit-forward Geishas from other origins.
