Tim Wendelboe – Kapsokisio 250g | Kenya
Kapsokisio is a wet mill on the slopes of Mount Elgon in western Kenya, supplied by several hundred smallholder farmers rather than a single estate. Most of them grow K7.
That makes this an unusual Kenyan coffee. K7 was released in 1936, selected from the existing population by the Scott Agricultural Laboratories, and recent genetic testing has placed it within the Bourbon group. It has never had the reputation of SL28 or SL34, but it remains widely planted around Kapsokisio and it is the backbone of this lot, with smaller quantities of SL28 and SL34 from farmers who have planted them.
Cherries are hand picked by the farmers and their families and delivered to the mill, where the good cherries are hand sorted from the inferior ones and kept in separate hoppers before processing.
The lot is washed. Tim Wendelboe describe the cup as intense, with rose hips, hibiscus and fresh red berries.
Freshly roasted by Tim Wendelboe in Oslo and imported to the UK by ROAST EDIT Co.
