Tim Wendelboe – Finca Tamana Variedad Colombia 250g | Colombia
Finca Tamana lies at El Pital in Huila and is farmed by Elias Roa and Bellanid Sanchez. It is Tim Wendelboe's longest-running producer relationship, and the farm appears in their range across several different cultivars — this is the Variedad Colombia lot.
The cultivar has a specific history. Colombian farms traditionally grew Caturra, Bourbon and Typica, all of which are badly affected by leaf rust. In response, Cenicafé, the Colombian coffee research institute, began work in the late 1960s on a resistant hybrid, and Variedad Colombia was released in the 1980s. It crosses Caturra with the Timor Hybrid, itself a natural crossing of Robusta and Arabica, and it is a multiline selection rather than a single uniform plant. The Timor Hybrid contributes the rust resistance; the yield potential and cup quality sit close to Caturra.
The lot is washed. Tim Wendelboe describe it as comforting and sweet, with caramel, chocolate and red fruit.
